Snehta Residency Open Day: Lenka Kubelová and Lea Culetto
On 15 November 2024 Snehta prepared open day at their residential venue. Snehta Residency is hosting two SAiR residents: Lenka Kubelová from the Czech Republic and Lea Culleto from Slovenia. Immersed in the vibrant, picturesque Mediterranean atmosphere of Athens, both artists are actively developing their creative projects.
Lea Culleto is currently working on her project titled Leftovers. It revolves around body waste, specifically hair. Hair is historically associated with memory and power, often evoking different emotions. During her second SAiR residency at Snehta the artist is focusing on the history of hair and its connection to myths, fairytales and magic. Through the research, various recurring symbols began to emerge.
wreath, circle, naval, womb, serpent, braids, gold, rope, thread, chain, poppet, flame
Through them Lea is trying to understand the meaning of hair which has a dual aspect. It's alive and dead. Strong and fragile. Can be long or short. Lush or sparse. It evokes contrasting feelings of cherish and disgust. Strength and weakness. Beauty and sickness. It can simultaneously be seductive or repulsive.
Hungry ghosts and pomegranate seeds is an autumn part of a project by Lenka Kubelová. Can our society be nourished and move on from the society of insatiable hungry ghosts who always need more? Mediterranean autumn as descent to the underworld with pomegranate seeds in the hand. Contrast of fertility and mortality. Wax batik prints, Turkish red madder root dyes, autumn kombucha tastes, seasonal ferments and series of nourishing meditations (https://soundcloud.com/lenkakubelova/sets/meditations-eng).
